Call for Panel Proposals: 2009 ASIANetwork Conference
Hickory Ridge Conference Center, Lisle, Illinois
Dear ASIANetwork Members:
When ASIANetwork convenes its annual conference in 2009, from March 13-15, we will be meeting in Lisle, Illinois at the Hickory Ridge Conference Center.
The Program Committee of the Board has announced that the theme of the 2009 Conference will be “ASIA CHANGING/CHANGING ASIA.” Here are a few questions around which we might develop panels and prepare papers related to the theme.
- What historical transformations within and between Asian countries/regions mark the reality of Asia in the past and present?
- How is the Asian present in flux/still stable? What is changing in Asia? What isn’t?
- How are Asia’s relationship with other global regions/cultures changing (e.g., with Africa, Latin America, Europe, U.S., and/or the Pacific)?
- How is Asian changing you … your teaching … your discipline … paradigms with which you have acquaintance?
- Is Asia really “the future”? How? Why? Why not?
- How have exchanges of ideas within Asia, and between Asia and the world, changed understandings of identity, age, gender, religion, philosophy, society or politics?
- How have the ways Asian cultures see each other changed/remained the same?
- Getting more specific:
- How Asian art is transforming the global art market.
- Is the tea ceremony really still alive in Japan?
- How will Asia change the understanding of democracy?
- What changes are Asian cultures making in our understanding of environmental and sustainability challenges and solutions?
- In what ways are ethnic interactions within and across Asia changing?
- How Asian art is transforming the global art market.
If you are interested in offering a panel in March 2009, please send the panel proposal form to me by August 18, 2008.
