Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

  1. According to the guidelines, colleges must be members of ASIANetwork for one year prior to making application for a grant. How is this year defined?

    1. Applicants for the 2010-11 program must have joined ASIANetwork prior to January 1, 2009, and must have paid their membership dues for the 08-09 and 09-10 academic years.

  2. Can a college submit 2 applications in one year?

    1. No. Each college may submit only 1 application.

  3. Can a college that has received an ASIANetwork - Luce Teaching Fellow grant apply in subsequent years?

    1. No.

  4. Can a college submit a proposal in the year following the submission of an unsuccessful proposal?

    1. Yes.

  5. Will a representative from the Luce Foundation be on the selection committee?

    1. No. The selection committee, consisting of 3 to 5 people, will typically include the executive director of ASIANetwork, the program director, and current and former members of the ASIANetwork board of directors.

  6. Are the colleges that receive the grant required to offer their teaching fellow housing, health insurance, and other benefits?

    1. No. The hiring college makes compensation decisions. It is assumed that the entire $30,000 grant will be used for the benefit of the teaching fellow in the form of salary and/or benefits. Additional salary or benefits may be added to the $30,000 at the discretion of the hiring college.
